Milly by Michelle Smith F/W 2010:
We found an American in Paris on the artsy chic
Parisian inspired runway at Milly

Grab your passport ladies and get ready to jet set to France because we found an “American in Paris” at the Milly by Michelle Smith fall/winter 2010 collection. Smith drew inspiration from
the “Rive Gauche” in Paris, the famed stomping ground for creative geniuses like Pablo Picasso and Ernest Hemingway. "Godard's artsy, chic women serve as my muse this season, with
their clever combinations of bold hues, clean, modern silhouettes and feminine, cool attitude," says the New York based designer, who once worked for the power fashion houses of
Hermes and Dior. This collection is couture in creativity, clever in technique and luxe in fabrication for the artsy chic sophisticate. Although short jackets, mini-skirt paired with berets and
long gloves has been done time and time again, Smith offered a modern spin on a timeless style. Expect to see actress Leighton Meester's character Blair from "Gossip Girls" rocking
these Milly styles in the coming season.

Norma Kamali Flagship Grand Opening:
Genius Rears Its Beautiful Head in Midtown New York
POSTED February, 17 2010
FASHION WEEK
Norma Kamali didn’t miss a thing when she decided to open up shop in Midtown New
York with her flagship store. Clothes, sunglasses, an organic juice bar, her own line of
olive cooking oil and olive oil infused skincare line all adorn the beautiful space she now
occupies on 11 W 56th Street.
Those who wish to tour the store and wield a Blackberry or an iPhone can download the
ScanLife application, their very own handheld docent that helps them navigate all the
different stops in the store through a video. The application even allows newcomers to
scan delineated areas throughout the store with their phone for area-to-area details.
All the posh, new-age details aside, the clothes are flabbergasting. Part of the “Special
Treatment” line, which essentially means that it’s made by hand, is the first to greet you at
the door. The “Special Treatment” collection is a jaw-dropping ensemble of dresses and
swimsuits adorned throughout with mother of pearl buttons. You’ve probably seen one of
these Kamali pieces, “The Jorge,” on Beyonce in her latest music video: Videophone. A
little further in is her “Sleeping Bag” collection, an iconic piece she created in the 70’s
while out on a camping trip, where she cut up a sleeping bag and made a haute
makeshift coat. The piece is outlandishly stylish and so soft to the touch you might have to
be pried away, lest you end up getting one for yourself at the initial touch.
The “Sleeping Bag” leads to the “Parachute” collection, made of…you guessed it, black-
dyed parachutes. Then there’s the “Mesh” line and even more “Special Treatment”, but
instead of buttons, safety pins are the adorning gambit. The beauty, the ideas and the
clothes are inexhaustive. Where has Norma Kamali been this whole time? By the looks of
things, Kamali should’ve had a New York City flagship a long time ago. Her presence
here is long overdue.
