First stop on day 1 was Project Runway, where we spotted singer turned designer Jessica
Simpson sitting front row and center as the surprise guest judge for the reality TV shows
finale. Simpson seemed focused on fashion sitting next to judge’s Nina Garica, Fashion
Director of Marie Claire, designer Michael Kors and supermodel Heidi Klum. We hope to see
Valerie, Mondo and Gretchen in the final three.
Tell us who you think should be the winner of season 8?

Christian Siriano Adds New Elements to His Bag of Tricks & Restores the Faith

Forget the LBD for just one moment. Consider Christian Siriano’s best Spring 2011 sartorial offering: the LSD – the Little Shiny Dress. As one has come to expect from Siriano, there were a
fair number of tiered and wrapped gowns, but what truly held the show together was the excitement of seeing Siriano’s repertoire grow with newly explored elements.
Interspersed with elegantly structured little white dresses, tailored suits, gowns, leather cigar boleros and signature flowy organza, Siriano’s LSDs came out in iridescent silvers, coppers,
charcoals and even in gold spackled and blood red snakeskin. The very best were not his show-stopping numbers, although the drama and showmanship is always appreciated. The two
very best on the runway were a glittering champagne cocktail dress with cinched and draped organza over one shoulder and a jaw-droppingly sexy gold alligator mini suit with champagne
pockets.
Towards the end a rather drab molten rock red print (on Sessilee Lopez’s three tiered gown) almost single handedly brought the crackle and pop of the iridescent textures to a halt, but his
last two explosions of voluminous organza, which were slightly reminiscent of last spring’s Viktor & Rolf show-stoppers, brought the fire right back around.

The Vena Cava Message for Spring? Hype Up the Glamour – All the Kids Are Doing It

obvious glammed itself up, and for the spring/summer season no less. It’s proven to be a slightly more mature outing, from collection to collection this season.
The waistlines are still a bit high (the look has certainly outworn its welcome – no pun intended), their looped neckline leitmotif is still intact, but as we’ve come to learn, it has evolved into
something new and as wearable as their past versions. It’s nice to see the girls holding on to what obviously works (it has worked beautifully for the Herve Leger bandage dress).
As chic and polished as their separates may be, the powerhouses this time around were their dresses. And to believe that a Vena Cava collection only has one single solitary shirtdress in
the bunch is a clear-cut sign of the growth the duo has been continually working towards. The Sunset Boulevard turbans created by celebrity hairstylist Ted Gibson helped to lay a nicely
done counterbalance of old-school/new-school glamour. Their final piece, a stunning camel silk dress with a dramatically scalloped hem and a beautifully artisanal copper neckline needed
none of those supplements for elevation. The dress spoke for itself and its statement was clear: you’re never too young for some serious glamour.

It was all about California love at Milk Studios in the Meat Packing District of Manhattan where LNA presented their spring/summer 2011 collection. Founded in 2007, LNA is the brainchild of
Cali natives, Lauren Alexander (R) and April Leight (L), who strive to design a casually-cool line of high-quality cotton basics. LNA is a look for the relaxed type of stylista who prefers to take
basics and jazz them up, which explains why celebs like Nicole Richie, Mischa Barton and Chloë Sevigny, who attended the event are fans of the line. “For spring 11 we really wanted to go
back to our roots and focus on color and basics,” says Lauren Alexander. “This season is about function. We have evolved, but we are still about basics, the best tee-shirts and leggings.”
Look out for the unexpected details in this minimalist collection that featured inverted v-shaped hems, draped wraps and leggings, layered tees and cardigans and relaxed maxi skirts.
