Later that evening, I arrived at Saks Fifth Avenue for the debut of “The Wizard of Oz Ruby Slippers Collection,” where
top designers were granted creative license to put a fresh interpretation on the iconic Ruby Slippers displayed in the
film exactly 70 years ago. Designers like Alberta Ferretti (left), Moschino (center), Oscar de la Renta (right) and other
were allowed the creative reign to employ crystallized Swarovski Elements on each detailed shoe. The star studded
event included celebrity appearances by designer Betsey Johnson; IMG Senior Vice President, Fern Malis; model
Molly Sims; famed fashion photographer Nigel Barker; designer Pamella Roland and many more! Nigel appeared to
be very excited to witness Pamella Roland’s Spring 09 collection, “I’m definitely looking forward to seeing Pamela’s
work this week,” gushed Barker. Santiago and Malan Breton, Project Runway talents, were on hand to enjoy the
festivities as well. Malan Breton informed me that he’s making huge moves, “…Launching a jewelry collection titled
Malan Breton Bijoux, featuring large, fine really beautiful jewels with hundreds of karats. I will be launching this to a
European and Asian market. I was also featured on America’s Next Top Model Australia.” Malan continued, “A woman’
s look needs to be complete and in order to complete her look, adornments are a necessary aspect, this inspired me
to create my new jewelry collection.” Breton, was also very excited to show his collection in the tents and rightfully so
as the only former Project Runway contestant to do so.

alongside Jennifer Lopez, founding Design Director for P.Diddy Combs’ Sean John Label, and a partnership with the House of
Dereon. “….This line empowers women and allows them to feel sexy, strong, fearless, and confident”, asserted Thomson.

I arrived from Miami on an oddly warm fall day for New York as Mercedes Benz Fashion
Week was just revving up. Yummie Tummie kicked things off with an assault on the carnal
senses. Thursday nights show was held in the dank basement of the West Bank Café.
The models donning the sultry lingerie varied from voluptuous to slender yet curvy, a bold
reflection of Heather Thomson’s collection. The sensuous show exhibited New York’s most
provocative, skilled, limber, and fit exotic dancers writhing atop the poles displaying wearable
comfortable functional fashion. Yummie Tummie’s clothing consisted of a dual

Day 2 of My Fashion
Excursion – Under the
Tents at Bryant Park
The day began with designer
Charlotte Ronson’s
comfortable, prêt-a-porter line
chock full of casual dresses,
free flowing skirts, and sheer-
light fabrics. The collection
included very neutral pallets
with traces of teal, pink, and
orange. Charlotte’s
spring/summer dresses
included floral prints, solids,
and horizontal stripes. The
paparazzi created a frenzy
before the show began as
they attempted to capture
shots of the glitterati who
were in attendance. Gracing
the front row of the show was
the notorious, Lindsay Lohan
with rumored girlfriend and
sister of designer, Samantha
Ronson, by her side (pictured
below). The pieces appeared
to freely move about the
slender beauties who strode
down the catwalk.

After Ronson's show, I
made my way to Abaeté
where designer Laura
Poretzky introduced a
intermingling of vibrant
and dark colored
fabrics. Her collection
included geometric
shapes, a multitude of
lines, layered garments,
pleated dresses and
skirts. Abaeté utilized
throwback two toned
swimsuits inspired by
the late 1950’s era. The
pieces seem to be
designed for the
carefree and spirited
woman who prefers
simplicity and notice
ability. The diverse array
of models sauntered
down the catwalk to
female empowered
electro-rock.
