Born and raised in Cologne, designer
Kilian Kerner now calls Berlin his home. Once
a drama student, Kerner ditched the stage for
the theatrics of high-fashion design in ‘04 to
start his self titled label. The young designers’
talents are indisputable and having only been in
the industry four years, Kerner has now
conquered the most coveted stage in fashion,
presenting a collection at Mercedes-Benz
Fashion Week.

Kerner’s Spring/Summer ’09 collection, called
“Sekundenflüge”, flaunted elegant
womenswear, paired with slim dandy-
silhouettes for men. The focus of the collection
as espoused by Kerner’s PR firm was,
“Asymmetrical with extraordinary combinations
of material meet classical details,” (Courtesy
Silk Relations).

FashionQandA.com got the chance to listen for
the first time to the sounds of Berlin band
SplinterX, who was on the runway jamming to a
song they produced for Kerner’s collection. The
collection was very fluid, and each piece
accented the next. Our favorite women’s look
was a lilac halter full length dress (pictured left).
It was simple, yet timelessly modern with an
enhanced waist that reflected amazingly against
the lights of the runway. Many people fail to
realize how difficult designing for both men and
women can be, and Kerner clearly
demonstrated his versatility. As the runway
show came to a close, Kerner’s finale mirrored
the spectacle of a Bravo Project runway season
end, when he brought everyone out to the
runway with him, including the band’s lead
singer. Maybe sometimes a simple bow is just
not enough.

The saying “Save the best for last” certainly held true at Kai Kühne’s Spring/Summer presentation. The former Ford
model turned designer brought fire to the runway with a smoking hot collection. FashionQandA.com was marveled and
captivated by Kühne’s modern and sophisticated avant-garde flair. With one-of the most fashionably compelling
collections during the entire four-day event, Kühne brought a complete package to the runway, great fashion and
excitement. For several looks, the designer sent out two models in similar garments. The first model walked 2 steps
similar garments. The first model walked 2 steps ahead of the second model, creating an amazing doppelganger
Deneuve in "The Hunger", and from other movies like "Blade Runner" and "The Marriage of Maria Braun" by Fassbinder.

It was a dark tone at Kühne in terms of color. The designer utilized deep violet and variations of gold shimmer and
metallic's inculcated with grey and black. The collection was crisp, sleek, and well structured. Kühne is truly in touch
with the contours and curves of a woman’s body because every piece looked tailor made to the models shape.
FashionQandA.com has had its eyes on this designer’s career since his days with “As Four”. We are excited for the
endless possibilities in front of him with his own label, as he grows and expands as a creator.
