Anne Valerie Hash Takes a Subdued Approach
to Couture on Her Brand’s 10 Year Anniversary

Anne Valerie Hash has never been your typical couturier – at least not in the same light or vein that we see John Galliano, Riccardo Tisci and Karl Lagerfeld. The aforementioned are
always sensitive to the showmanship of haute couture, while Hash is more intrigued by made-to-measure above anything else.
Not that she makes a strict compromise. Her spring 2010 couture outing was brimming in modern and technical motif. She employed that oily, diaphanous metallic organza that Armani
Prive has been clutching on to for the past few seasons now. But for this, the 10 year anniversary of her brand, Anne Valerie Hash worked a more subdued hand and eye, opting for a
presentation instead of a runway and deploying just ten looks, which were donned by two beautiful black models, as well as on white mannequin analogues. The point was to get that
closer look.
Hash is also the kind of designer who embraces input. When her customers ask for bridal, she gives them bridal. They want Smokings? They got them. And it appears the Smokings are
still getting calls, judging from this latest presentation, which boasted three altogether.
Hash has always had a knack for two things: Men’s tailoring with an essentially feminine generosity as well as color choice. While the former helped carry her couture collection, the latter
bordered on soporific. Her trompe l’oeil leitmotif worked versatile feats, like in a high slit jumpsuit dress that functioned as one piece, but at first glance, appeared to be a black thigh-high
slit skirt and a deep plunge tan sleeveless top. Another 2-in-1 piece was what looked to be a tan body-con skirt that fell below the ankles, paired with a blush pink flowy blouse with a
descending row of pearls down its front. The fit on that top was way off and came out looking not only unkempt for couture, but downright matronly. Glitz or no glitz, one should never be led to
forget that couture is what is on the docket for the rest of the week.
