Tracy Reese gives NYC a healthy dose of European elegance.

Curry may not be everybody’s favorite color but Tracy Reese is looking to change that. Reese’s Fall/Winter 2011 offering was all about ‘deep hues,
sculptural shapes and engaging textural combinations.’
Reese undertook color-blocking to brilliant effect, pairing muted tones and more natural shades
(including those ‘rich curries’) with dazzling metallics and pops of jewel color, complimented by the Manic Panic-esque streaks of color in the model’s hair.

The first look presented a study in purple, an aubergine cable boat-neck and maxi pleat skirt accessorized with a discreet fur stole that was subtly
luxurious. An all-grey cable turtle neck and mid-calf pleat skirt radiated that elegant European style which rarely translates outside the Continent. Reese
was on form with her contrasting fabrics - a black embellished v-neck and twill flounced skirt nailed casual elegance, while a hit of rock ‘n’ roll swagger
was provided through her allying of chunky fur jackets with geometric print dresses.

The designer’s much lauded way with print was not forgotten and was used to varying effect. Some prints, such as the botanical midi dress looked old
and tired and lacked the smart innovation apparent in the rest of the collection. What’s obvious is that Reese not only designs for the modern American
woman, but that she provides the kind of versatility that a hectic lifestyle demands. The variation of looks meant that the collection did lack a strongly
coherent theme. The advantage was that Reese provided one look or more for every occasion- cocktail dresses and gowns, lively day dresses, well cut,
feminine work-wear, including an eye catching diamond grid suit as well as more casual pieces. The relaxed glamour of the rich curry abstract coat, toffee
raglan sweater and copper cable sequin skirt were particularly successful and united Reese’s talent for print, texture and colour. Through her confident
marriage of unusual colors and her luxurious pairing of textures, Reese gives the American woman her own a slice of Parisian chic.
