Christian Siriano: Finally Ready to Be Taken Seriously
'Project Runway' golden boy Christian Siriano took an unexpected turn this season. Citing Katherine Hepburn’s style in the 1955 film, ‘Summertime’ as inspiration, as well as underwater
specimens like ‘acorn barnacles and other coral’. Siriano’s collection was dominated by acid yellows, pretty corals, and sea-inspired prints mixed with the casual sexy cool that Ms.
Hepburn made famous.
Stepping away from his past collections, which the designer himself described as “very dark and hard and harsh”, this season was all about subdued glamour, color and lightness. Models
came down the massive runway in lean, citrus-hued, floor length belted skirts, with a slight flounce at the hem paired with simple t shirts and stripped versions under cropped pant suits all
in a beautiful crepe fabric. The perfect ingredients for effortless chic dressing.
Knee-length vests, cropped capes and capped-sleeve button downs tucked into drawstring shorts and palazzo pants are sure to be a hit. Dresses from day to evening were draped, ruched
and cinched at the waist done in bold colors, pretty barnacle prints and tulle accents.
No Christian Siriano show would be completely fierce without a gown or two. This season he smartly paired floor sweeping tulle and pleated skirts with fitted stripped bodices and boxy t-
shirts. And mounds of layers and what appeared to be laser cut embroidery on neon gowns were fit for a modern sea queen.
Though Siriano has struggled with being taken seriously as a designer, this collection definitely has him headed in the right direction. His new venture into more casual daywear was a
surefire hit. These were beautiful, easy, comfortable clothes that make getting dressed and looking good a no-brainer.
