Nikasha Tawadey
"Shisheer" was the name of Nikasha Tawadey's Spring/Summer
2009 collection at Lakme Fashion Week and it was the "Big Look" that
the designer was advocating. Describing it as free flowing, long and
voluminous with dropped shoulder seams and minimum structuring,
Nikasha's line was the result of inspirations that were drawn from the
late 19th century Bengal artistes. Using hand woven fabrics like
muslin, georgette, chiffon, khadi silk and mulmul in beautiful shades
of lavender, terracotta, rose, pebble, grey, moss green, egg, brown,
off-white and cream - the designer kept the colour story muted. The
"Shisheer" collection by Nikasha Tawadey was indeed "The Big Look",
which was totally free flowing and ultra comfortable that will keep the
wearer stylishly cool during the hot summer days and nights.

Narendar Kumar
To the beat of DJ Mathew's throbbing live music and the acrobatic
dance number by Rajesh and his troupe in black leotards; the
Sunsilk and Narendra Kumar hair style and fashion fantasy at the
Lakme Fashion Week; was one of the most exciting style
presentations of the season. To match the trendy hairstyles created
by Global hair expert of Sunsilk from UK, Andrew Barton, which
featured Curls, Straight and Layers; Narendra dreamt up his latest
label "Nari Nari" aimed at the trendy young women of the country.

Krishna Mehta
It was a stylish “ Sunrise in the Desert Sands” as Krishna Mehta
titled her collection and the beautiful colours of the desert came alive
for her Spring/Summer 2009 look at Lakme Fashion Week. Colours
have never been more vibrant than they were on the design canvas
of Krishna as she wove her creative magic with poster red, cobalt
blue, yellow, green, iridescent orange and tones of violet for a men’s
and women’s line that was pure prêt. The highlights featured show
stoppers including actor Samir Dattani in a silk sherwani and TV
turned Bollywood star, Prachi Desai in a red long chiffon gown. Her
was a collection which was hand woven and embellished but with
western silhouettes that will appeal to the connoisseurs of fashion
and will surely win for Krishna Mehta many accolades as the
creations will be great sellers all over the world.

Aastha Bahl
Aastha Bahl showed a delightful summer line, using a neutral colour base of
crème, combined with a very op-art fish-like motif that pervaded her
collection. Aiming her collection at the resort wear look, Bahl added minor
details to her pieces, like delicate crochet lace to yokes and shoulder straps.
The dresses, blouses and skirts were simple in silhouette, but effortless
chic. The collection also featured pin tuck printed dresses, cute hoodies with
kangaroo pockets and peek-a-boo backs, tiny shrugs, printed leggings, and
strappy princess line flared dresses. The multi-colored patch creations were
fun and fashionable for hot, humid summer days, and colourful ankle warmer
added a funky fashion touch. Aastha Bahl’s collection, with fun styles for the
holiday season, will definitely be a must-have for fashionistas adding to their
wardrobes.

Rahul Mishra
This season, it was the rich handlooms of Madhya Pradesh that inspired
Rahul Mishra to present an ethereal collection, called, “Let Craft Lead the
Way”, for the S/S 09 season at Lakme Fashion Week. Using the beautiful
weaves of Maheshwar in unusual garment constructions, Rahul’s innovatively
styled collection was lavishly splashed with the most interesting detailing
techniques. The transparency of the fabrics was balanced by the satin lining
and the subdued colour palette, which consisted of white, black, grey, yellow,
turquoise and red with touches of gold in the weaves, giving the garment an
unusual quality of fusion. Rahul skillfully blended western silhouettes with
Indian weaves, in conjunction with impeccable tailoring through the
collection. One again, Rahul Mishra got accolades for his designing skills
and his collection will be in great demand with buyers in India and the west.

Rimzim Dadu
Rimzim Dadu’s label, My Village, showed an amazing range of short dresses,
featuring mind-boggling fabric manipulation and superior fabric texturing. The
collection featured four colour groups: grey/black/white, yellow and white,
electric blues and fabulous reds. Employing the use of fabrics like cotton and
chiffon, Rimzim achieved a stylish look, ranging from ruffled elegance to
diagonally draped minis, slim sheath dresses to tonal embroidery of smocks.
The finale featured an orange corded dress, a masterpiece in tailoring.
Rimzim expertly treated all fabrics, such that they displayed his intricate and
extremely precise pleating, draping and pin tucking. Once again, RImzim Dadu
can take a bow for a collection that was a wonder of superior blended fabric
texturing.
