Known instantly by name, Ted Gibson is a recognized celebrity hair stylist
responsible for coiffing the hair of Angelina Jolie, Renee Zellweger, Debra
Messing, Gabrielle Union, Anne Hathaway, Demi Moore and Claire Danes.
Gibson's work and beauty products have appeared in publications such as
Vogue, Elle, Vanity Fair, Allure, Marie Claire, W Beauty and Nylon just to
name a few. Behind that huge smile and great laugh is a man with a huge
heart. In addition to making women beautiful, Gibson is extensively involved
in philanthropy work. He recently appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show and
lent his talent to make 100 women go from ordinary to extraordinary. I had
the opportunity to sit down and speak with Gibson so I could let you know a
little more about the genius that is Ted Gibson.
Ted
Gibson:
The Man behind the Mane
You recently made an appearance on the Oprah show, what was
that experience like for you?
It was fabulous, and mind blowing.
What is the biggest misconception people have about hair care?
That you can buy only salon quality products at the salon, especially
nowadays.
How did you get into the business?
A good friend of mine is a hair dresser and he convinced me I should
go.
Who is your biggest inspiration?
Life in general, my husband Jason Backe, and in the hair business
Eugene Suleiman, a freelance hairdresser.
How and why did you decide to start a body care product line?
It made sense in a natural progression of a lifestyle brand coming
into hair and body. It’s a new category of body shampoos and body
conditioners.
You do a lot of charity work, tell me about that... What is your
goal?
I love to do regional as well as global charity work. If you only think
about the world, you forget about your community -- every
community makes up the world!
Who is your favorite head of hair to work on and why?
Anne Hathaway -- her hair is thick and does everything I want it to
do -- from straight to curly to wavy, its pretty much the best!
What's the one thing you can't live without? Person or thing?
Jason Backe, and chocolate.
When not making women beautiful, what do you like to do in
spare time?
Relax and rejuvenate -- shopping, meditation and hot baths.
