"I moved to New York believing that the intellectual and
cultural energy I had the pleasure of experiencing in the late
90s would manifest itself over time," proclaims Brooke
Geahan, the Founder of The Accompanied Literary Society
(ALS), and the FashionQandA.com June Girl of the Moment.
The society is composed of authors, journalists, artists,
intellectuals and cultural influencers, who have social
consciences to promote and sustain the literary arts.
Geahan, who founded the ALS in 2006, set out to make
both cultural and artistic differences in the world around her.
The literary society houses an impressive collection of over
6,000 rare and antiquarian books, and with membership
well over 500, Geahan plans to open a new library in
downtown Manhattan in 2009 that will house their grand
collection of literature, film, music, architecture and fashion
books. The library will also serve as a venue for book
launches and other various events. The group throws events
with readings and discussions by leading figures such as
Yoko Ono, Tom Wolfe, Paul Haggis, and others.
In the Fall, Geahan plans to start a mentor program that will
offer underprivileged students in New York the opportunity to
meet leading figures in the publishing and literary Arts
industry with hopes to inspire a new generation of talented
writers. The ALS believes that great writing deserves an
exceptional audience and with Geahan behind the genius of
this organization, the sky is the limit.
