Last month DEPESHA Magazine hosted Fashion: Aid a “Haute Summer Event” at Touch nightclub in
New York City. The event brought together fashion, music and a charity with various international
organizations working together to combat poverty and HIV/AIDS awareness and prevention.
For those of you who don’t know this magazine, here are a few details. DEPESHA Russian Lifestyle
Magazine is Russia’s top Internet fashion publication, with the first print issue coming out September
2008. The magazine aims to satisfy Russian society’s strong interest for high-fashion brands.
DEPESHA continues to serve as the flagship publication extensively covering global fashion and
lifestyle trends for the Russian consumer.
The night began as a cocktail reception with a DJ busting out tunes to get the crowd moving. Vodka,
champagne and caviar were served in true society style. We were treated to performance from Bella
Saona of “The Fire and Reason”. Bella had the crowd grooving and jumping to smooth Portuguese
sounds. The lights dropped down low and the models hit the catwalk. To the surprise of most of the
guests, young models came strutting down in Nico and Adrian Fall/Winter 08/09 collections. The
young models had poise, confidence and appeal that made the season cat walker’s jaws drop. The
highlight designs were the dresses, mini shorts and bathing suits in vivid colors, detailed with ruffles,
beading, savage shreds and over the top accessories were galore. It was truly an explosion of
fashion and color. The makeup brought us back to a tribal type feeling. Dark black streaked eyes,
tattoo like designs were put on the models faces and bodies. To top it all off were head dresses that
made you want to cheer.
Because this night was to bring awareness to HIV/AIDS and poverty, I would like to give you all a few
facts to help keep things in prospective. Since 1981, over 25 million people have died from HIV/AIDS.
It is a cross-cultural disease. It affects men, women, gays, heterosexuals, Blacks, Whites and
everyone in between. Please be safe, get tested and realize this disease can affect us all.
