| On February 8th at 7 PM Sean Jean made a huge impact on the fashion world when he sent down an ensemble of all African American (and a couple Hispanic) models in his Fall/Winter 2008 collection celebrating his 10th year in the fashion industry. The show began approximately 45 minutes late, but I did not mind since there was plenty of presecco to sample. This is one of those shows that draws a bevy of A-list celebrities including: Actress Ellen Pompeo, Director Spike Lee, Singer Cassie, Supermodel Helena Christensen, and Designer Robert Cavalli to name a few. The music begins, and it’s all by Sean Diddy Combs naturally and down marched his mannequins on a tri-level runway. The collection’s color palate consisted of black, muted grey, and steel as the base line constructed in various wools, knits, brocade, leather, satin, fur, and suede. |

| It appears that Sean Jean is trying to reach out to a different target market and I am rather skeptical that it will work. I noticed how he took risks with some of the silhouettes and shapes with layering that went array and almost made the models look shorter than they actually were. However, some stand out looks included a few ditto suits that would translate perfectly in the real world, as well as the brilliant motorcycle jackets done in various colors. You have to commend someone for aspiring to elevate the overall image of a brand and this was a brave attempt for Mr. Combs, but he did not quite hit the mark on this one. |
