Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim was held in South Miami
Beach at The Raleigh Hotel, July 18 through July 21. The
annual designer swimwear event introduced the 2009 Spring
collections from 15 designers, and FashionQandA.com  was
on the scene and attended the premiere shows of the week.
Over the course of five days, over 12,000 attendees enjoyed
shows from Cia Maritima, ANK by Mirla Sabino, tibi,
Custo Barcelona, Zimmermann and much more!

"Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim draws individuals who
enjoy cutting-edge fashion and the excitement of the runway.
The Mercedes-Benz brand is part of fashion culture and we
take great pride in making the show an ideal destination to
showcase beautiful style and quality design," claimed Lisa
Holladay, Manager Brand Experience Marketing (Courtesy IMG
press statement).
On Friday, July 18, first up was
Designer Amy Smilovic, who launched
her
tibi collection just over a decade
ago, showed beautiful and colorful
women's suits, cover-ups, and tunics
featuring Indonesian batik-style prints.
The suits were bold with strong colors
mixed with more calming chic
turquoise, olive and green colors. Only
one simple swimsuit was in the
collection, a sleek, black, one-
shouldered piece (pictured left).  The
music by Javier Peral was “bumpin”.

At the next show we were front
and center at former Victoria's
Secret designer Sylvie Cachay's
Syla (sea-la) collection,
established 2 1/2 years ago.
Cachay showed her awesome
luxurious, high-end women's
swimwear and resort wear.
There were lots of beautiful
prints and colors; big, bold
jewelry flattered each piece, and
the head bands added a sexy
flair as each model walked down
the catwalk. The three-part show
featured a segment of "WASPy,
glamorous divas followed by a
group of hippie girls from the
70s" and culminated in Syla
suits and garb, meant to evoke
the image of an 80s ‘punk rock
chick’ with a hint of the 60's

absolutely loved the collection!

Our favorite of Friday night was Custo Barcelona where unusual
textures and colors were mixed together to carry on the line's
signature style. There were lots of metallic sheens and sequins
that sparkled and shined brilliantly and the models wore
sunglasses to shield all that glam! The main theme was
tribal/ethnic that also showcased beautiful beach bags.

Custo Barcelona’s inspiration of ethnic notes, romantic exotic
flowers, graphic prints and tribal motifs, and oriental mosaics were
exotic and sensual.  The fabrics were a mix of matte and glossy,
with playful beadwork mixed with sequins for captivating results.
Tunics, kaftans, kimono-styles and sarongs to wear as cover-ups
were colorful and fun.

On Saturday FashionQandA.com
started out at
ANK where creator Mirla
Sabino put her design creativity on
bold prints and patterns for 2009.
Plant and animal prints figured strongly
in the collection. A blue print that
combined snake and cheetah with
some gold hardware kicked off the
show.  We loved the one-pieces with
cutouts and the one-shoulder suits
were serene and sexy.  As the models
strutted down the runway wearing
beautiful shades of coral, blues and
miss-match tops and bottoms added
an extra flamboyance that made us
want to make a purchase right then
and there and head to the beautiful
blue Atlantic ocean!

Our last show of the night on Saturday
was
Zimmermann, which was absolutely
moving! The Zimmermann Swimwear 2009
Collection ranged from Aztec inspired
patterns to peacock prints to sporty cross
band maillots and paired with glassy
antique jewelry.  The models owned the
runway wearing big black head scarves
tied with big bows to the side that look
absolutely bohemian! The line featured
layered dresses, multi-prints, ruffled
hems, cascading tiers, and flirty tucks;
romantically feminine and delicately wistful
with a touch of the wild! Zimmermann
2009 was the highlight of the night!
